Palestine Humanitarian Hackathon 2021

In partnership with the Red Cross, MENACatalyst is excited to announce its latest Hackathon challenge: Palestine Humanitarian Hackathon 2021! This intensive 4-day on-site event is designed for both college and university students and fresh graduates (19-29 years of age) to create technology-driven solutions, or creative social interventions addressing some of the most pressing humanitarian challenges affecting of thousands of Palestinians today.

The hackathon will kick-off with an immersive orientation introducing participants to the challenges, learn to identify the most critical humanitarian issues and how to apply innovative technologies to address them. The event will conclude with a high-stakes competition which will have all teams present their projects to a panel of expert with the top 3 awarded high prizes.

To participate in the Humanitarian Hackathon challenge you do not need to be a digital expert. Instead, we are looking for disruptive ideas that deliver impactful and sustainable digital solutions that address 3 main challenges:

> Medical services in conflict

> Assistance for civilians and vulnerable communities

> Information and communication as aid 

The hackathon is the first of its kind in Palestine and will be held (Nov. 11-14) in conjunction with the GEW, so all interested candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

    Applicants registered on our website (http://www.menacatalyst.org/) and were accepted as Hackathon participants must head to the welcome desk on arrival for check-in. At the welcome desk, all participants will be provided with name badge and T-shirts that must be worn all times. 

  • Welcome!
    09:30 - 10:00

    Welcome! – quick hello, intro, wifi details, “toilets and fire exits”, health & safety, and *run through today’s schedule. After the check in at the front entrance, all participants and guests are welcome to the main meeting area for mingling and to drink coffee to prepare for the eventful evening.

  • Key Note Speech“The Reason Why We are All Here”
    10:00 - 10:30

    Key Note Speech by the Minister of Entrepreneurship & Empowerment, and ICRS Team Leader.

  • Team Building Spirit Hackathon
    10:30 - 11:00

    Teams come together to think up solutions to the 3 defined challanges.We encourage single participants to pitch in their inital ideas. 10-15 participants can pitch their ideas and will attract particpants ( each team of 4-5 particpants) who would like to work on a certain idea and make it viable. We are there to facilitate the interactions and to foster creative collisions.

  • ICRC Breakout Sessions
    11:00 - 13:00

    Everyone gets started, Plus overview of the challenge(s) by MENACatalyst and ICRC specialists.

  • LET THE HACKING BEGIN!
    13:00 - 18:00

    Everyone gets started, and we refrain from interrupting them any further. Lunch is provided. Lunch provided at 2pm.
